Managing the Crisis: Making a Contingency Plan

Published on March 24, 2020

The economic crisis created by the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way we do business once and for all. It’s now safe to admit that there will be no going “back to normal.” Instead, what we are experiencing right now IS the new normal – and it will be this way for awhile.

So how do we protect our businesses, navigate the crisis, and emerge stronger on the other side?

As a former EMT, a student of crisis management, and someone who helps organizations navigate dangerous waters, I have some ideas to share as we face this once-in-a-lifetime pandemic.

Over the next few weeks and months, I’ll be releasing daily short videos to provide a step-by-step plan you can follow to manage the crisis, have the right mindset, and succeed with resilience.

The first thing you should do is make a contingency plan. EMTs and other healthcare workers are trained in the concept of triage, and it’s a useful concept for all of us now. List all of the issues you need to address and then prioritize them. Which ones must be dealt with immediately? Which ones can you do nothing about? Which ones can wait? Focus on what’s critical today to bring stability to your situation and stay tuned for next step in tomorrow’s video. #VelocityMindset #COVID19
