You may have heard me talk about my mother, Miriam Karr. She was a world-renowned Economist and Senior Vice President of Chase Manhattan Bank. But her way up to the top hadn’t always been smooth.

As she was working her way up the corporate ladder in the 1960’s, Miriam was rejected a high-level position that she was obviously qualified for at a large organization. Reason for rejection? She was a woman.

My mother walked out of that interview deflated yet not defeated. In fact, as a result of that experience, her resolve to succeed only strengthened.

Do you give up too easily in the face of adversity?
