How to Grow Revenues by Leveraging Your Assets

Are you leveraging your assets?
You know, about 12 years ago, I got divorced. When you’re divorced, single, and looking for a new relationship, you often turn to online dating or apps. One thing I quickly realized is that to be successful on those platforms, you need to leverage your assets.
I’ve been told by quite a few people that I have what’s called the trifecta: I’ve got the teeth, the hair, and these killer baby blue eyes that have been known to melt… Well, we’ll stop right there.
I discovered the power of my baby blue eyes when I was young. I started to leverage that by wearing clothes that brought out the blue. I noticed I was getting better results when meeting people compared to when I didn’t play to my strengths.
Let me explain this in a business sense. Many of you may have heard my story from when I first started out in sales. I was selling for World Business Machines, promoting a new copier with cutting-edge technology: 15 crisp copies a minute. But it couldn’t collate, staple, or bind because those features were coming out later, two years later, in fact.
At first, I couldn’t sell it because I was having the wrong conversation. But when I recognized and understood my assets, I leveraged them. I focused on solving productivity problems. Rather than making my clients’ employees wait for one or two copies behind big jobs, I proposed they get a machine for each floor in the office, so those smaller jobs could be done quickly, giving them back their productivity. Once I grasped that, my sales took off.
So, if you really want to increase your influence at home, at work, and with your clients, remember to leverage your assets. Focus on what you do have, and stop worrying about what you don’t.
