The Email I Wish I Hadn’t Sent (and the Lesson You Need to Hear)

Published on August 19, 2025

You ever have one of those weeks where you put all your energy into a big project—like a mailing blast about the Velocity Mindset®—and then, with the excitement of a kid launching a rocket, you hit send, only for the results to come crashing down like a soufflé in an earthquake? Yeah, me too.

So I did what any self-respecting, slightly frazzled person would do: I took it to my therapist. That’s what therapists are for, right? Helping you figure out why your mailing list is ignoring you—and why you still don’t understand Instagram filters.

I’ll never forget it. I’m pouring my heart out, she listens, she nods, and then, without even blinking, she says: “Who wants velocity today, when the world feels like it’s spinning out of control?”

Bam!

I literally pause mid-sentence. If my life were a movie, that was the record-scratch moment. Here I am selling speed—and the world is asking for brakes, and maybe a cup of chamomile tea.

Who knew?

So my team and I did what any smart group would do: we paused. Which, in our case, meant drinking coffee, researching, changing our messaging, and trying really hard not to look like deer in the headlights.

Now, let’s be clear: when most people hear “velocity,” they think NASCAR-level speed. But here’s the twist: in physics, velocity is speed with direction. Without direction, you’re just spinning like a hamster on a wheel. Great cardio, but no actual progress.

So the lesson—besides “don’t send emails during Mercury Retrograde”—is this: sometimes you need to pause. Step off the hamster wheel, catch your breath, figure things out. Make sure you’re acting with purpose, not just habit. Because repeating the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome—that’s the setup for a sitcom, or for insanity.

And in today’s world, where everything feels like it’s on fast-forward, sometimes the fastest way forward is to pause. Make it intentional. Give yourself and your team space to pivot, laugh at the absurdity, and get back into the game with a clear direction.

And if pausing feels weird, just remember—even Superman takes off his glasses and rethinks things once in a while.

So go ahead. Press pause. Your velocity will thank you.

If this resonates with you, imagine what would happen if you and your team applied the Velocity Mindset® with clarity, purpose, and direction.
