The Moment I Stopped Feeling Like a Fraud
Published on December 3, 2025
You know, there’s a phrase from my childhood that stuck with me for decades.
It wasn’t inspirational.
It wasn’t wise.
It was—“You’re a fraud.”
My father said it to me.
T
And it became a lightning bolt that hit me every single time I tried to do something big.
And here’s the worst part… There was one part of my life that actually gave a little credibility to that statement.
My weight.
How could I get on a stage, speaking to thousands, telling leaders how to be disciplined… when I couldn’t even be disciplined when it came to a plate of pasta?
I was 100 pounds overweight.
That wasn’t just physically heavy—it was emotionally heavy. It was an Albatross—a weight around my neck that whispered, “See? He was right.”
It ate at me. Not just my confidence. My gut. My identity. And every time I walked on stage, or looked in the mirror, or opened the closet and tried to put on a suit that didn’t fit… That voice would come back.
But something happened. I finally did it.
I changed my habits. I changed my body. And with that gone… I didn’t feel like a fraud anymore.
I finally reached a place that had been on my bucket list for years. And when I got there, the first thought I had was: “Why didn’t I do this 20 years ago?”
And then it hit me — that is a toxic thought. Because if you’re looking backwards asking “Why didn’t I…?” …you are not focused on what you’re doing now. You’re not focused on what you can create next.
Velocity isn’t about how fast you move. It’s about moving forward with intention. And you can’t move forward if you’re staring at the rear-view mirror of regret.
So here’s what I want you to take from this: Don’t worry about the time you think you lost. Worry about what you can do today… And who you can become tomorrow.
Let me ask you something:
What is your albatross? What’s that weight around your neck that you’ve carried for years—the thing that drains your energy, steals your confidence, and slows down your ability to take action?
If you let it go—what would become possible?
What could you accomplish faster than you ever thought?
Because the moment you release that weight…You’re no longer a fraud. You’re free. And that’s when velocity begins.
I’m Ron Karr — reminding you:
Speed is great.
But speed with direction…
That’s The Velocity Mindset®.
