Your Team Is Moving Fast—But Is It Moving Forward?

Published on August 3, 2026

In today’s business environment, leaders and sales teams are being pushed to move faster, produce more, adopt new tools, and deliver immediate results.

But moving faster does not automatically mean moving forward.

One of the most important principles of the Velocity Mindset® is to start with the end in mind, but first, you must make sure you are pursuing the right end.

Too many organizations confuse activity with achievement. Leaders fill calendars, launch initiatives, chase quarterly numbers, and push their teams to do more. Yet they rarely pause long enough to ask:

What meaningful outcome are we actually trying to create?

That distinction matters.

Closing more deals, hitting quota, and launching a product are important goals, but they may not represent the real outcome the organization needs. A sales team can exceed its revenue target while failing to build stronger client relationships. A company can successfully launch a new initiative without solving the problem it was designed to address.

The numbers may look good, but the organization can still miss the point.

True velocity requires three things:

Clarity: Define the outcome that will genuinely move the business forward.

Alignment: Make sure everyone understands that outcome and is moving in the same direction.

Courage: Identify and eliminate the outdated processes, incentives, assumptions, and personal resistance that are slowing progress.

High performers naturally gravitate toward action. But when people are moving quickly in different directions, the result is not momentum—it is friction.

And when leaders refuse to confront the internal brakes holding the organization back, working harder only creates more exhaustion.

The greatest threat to your success may not be a lack of speed.

It may be a lack of clarity about where all that speed is taking you.

Before asking your team to do more, pause and ask:

Are we moving toward the right outcome?
Are we aligned around what success truly looks like?
What must we stop doing to create meaningful progress?

Do not simply accelerate.

Aim higher. Align your people. Clear the path.

That is how leaders turn motion into momentum and momentum into meaningful results.
